ACCOUNTING/BOOKKEEPER - DEPARTMENT: ACCOUNTING

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

We are seeking a full-time, on-site Accounting/Bookkeeper to join our team in Bakersfield, CA. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial records, managing financial transactions, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles. The Accounting/Bookkeeper will handle financial statements, journal entries, data analysis, and the use of accounting software to support the company’s financial health.

As an integral part of the accounting team, this professional will work closely with managers across various departments, requiring strong communication and collaboration skills. They will also assist with month-end and year-end financial processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

Role Description

The Accounting/Bookkeeper position at Terra Bella Farms plays a key role in managing the company's financial records, ensuring accuracy in bookkeeping, and supporting financial reporting. This role will oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and financial statement preparation , while ensuring compliance with internal accounting procedures. The Accounting/Bookkeeper will work closely with the Office Manager, CPA, and other departments to maintain accurate financial records and assist in budgeting and forecasting.

Key Responsibilities:

Bookkeeping & General Ledger Management:

  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping , including A/P, A/R, payroll support, and inventory reconciliation .
  • Maintain the general ledger , ensuring all financial transactions are properly categorized and recorded.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, vendor statements, and customer accounts on a regular basis.
  • Process journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries as needed for accurate financial reporting.

Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for management review.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP accounting standards and internal financial policies .
  • Prepare and maintain audit-ready financial records and assist in internal audits and CPA reviews .
  • Support tax compliance , including sales tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory filings .

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable:

  • Process and track vendor invoices, payments, and purchase orders (POs) , ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  • Monitor accounts receivable , issue invoices, and follow up on overdue payments.
  • Work closely with the Sales and Logistics teams to verify invoices, ensure proper documentation, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain strong vendor and customer relationships , addressing inquiries and concerns in a professional manner.

Process Improvement & System Management:

  • Assist in optimizing financial workflows and implementing best practices for efficiency.
  • Support financial system updates and integrations within Silo accounting software .
  • Work closely with the Office Manager and CPA to develop improved financial controls and reporting systems .

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of bookkeeping and accounting experience , preferably in agriculture, produce logistics, or a related industry .
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting, financial reconciliations, and reporting .
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online , Microsoft Excel , and financial reporting tools.
  • Experience handling accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and inventory tracking .
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment .
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide financial insights.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
