The Summer Undergraduate Internship in Nonproliferation Studies at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) and the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS) is a paid internship. Interns will be compensated at the same rate as graduate research assistants. Internship lasts between 2-3 months, from early June to late August. Fellows are responsible for finding housing, with the assistance of the Internship Coordinator. Masako Toki, CNS Senior Project Manager, [email protected]
This is a part-time, temporary position with a hiring range of $17 - $17.50 per hour.

CNS is a pioneer in developing and applying "New Tools" in nonproliferation research and education. Our key techniques include open source information and computer modeling, namely the creative use of satellite imagery, geospatial data, 3-dimensional (3D) modeling, virtual reality environments, and social media platforms. CNS is also taking the lead in examining the nexus of AI and WMD nonproliferation from several perspectives informed by a core group of staff with deep expertise on a variety of relevant issues.
To gain an idea of what CNS does, please take a look at a recent project by CNS experts that recreated the US Raven Rock Mountain Complex and Russia's Kosvinsky Bunker using open source information.
Duties
In addition to assisting CNS experts with ongoing projects, our fellows get to develop their own research projects under the guidance of their respective supervisors. Also, fellows are expected to attend seminars and lectures held at CNS throughout the summer because this is an educational program. Fellows may have an opportunity to present results of their independent research as appropriate during the program.
