SUMMARY:

The Commercial Appraisal Job Manager is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of commercial real estate appraisal assignments within the bank. This role demands an exceptional ability to evaluate, coordinate, and manage diverse and often complex appraisal requests while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies supporting the bank's focus on safety and soundness. The ideal candidate will combine strong commercial real estate knowledge, excellent interpersonal skills, and a high degree of organizational and analytical acumen to ensure that appraisal orders are initiated properly, processed accurately, and completed on time. This individual will serve as the key liaison between loan officers, commercial appraisers, and internal review staff, acting as a quality and communication gatekeeper throughout the appraisal process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Evaluate and analyze new appraisal orders submitted by loan officers, ensuring completeness, clarity, and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
  • Determine the appropriate scope and complexity of each appraisal assignment to ensure proper bid requests are sent to a panel of qualified and approved commercial appraisers.
  • Proactively identify gaps in order documentation and coordinate with loan officers to obtain missing or clarifying materials prior to bidding or engagement.
  • Facilitate timely and accurate bidding and engagement of appraisers based on appraisal type, asset class, location, and project complexity.
  • Maintain continuous communication with both appraisers and loan officers throughout the appraisal lifecycle to answer questions, clarify expectations, and resolve issues.
  • Assign completed appraisals to qualified internal or external reviewers and monitor progress to ensure timeliness and quality.
  • Upload final appraisal and review reports into the bank’s valuation management system and distribute final documents to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Review and process appraiser and reviewer invoices for payment in accordance with bank policies.
  • Coordinate resolution of post-delivery issues including technical revisions, reconsideration of value requests, and underwriting concerns as needed.
  • Deal effectively with Bank examiners.
  • Monitor trends in commercial real estate valuation to support continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Completes annual compliance courses.
  • Adheres specifically to all corporate policies and procedures. Also adheres to Federal and State regulations and laws; including, the Bank Secrecy Act and the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
  • Adheres to all levels of our Service Excellence standards.
  • Performs other duties as required.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge & Experience : These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial real estate, valuation, or banking operations with exposure to a wide range of property types (land, retail, office, industrial, mixed-use, special-purpose).
  • Familiarity with appraisal regulatory requirements (USPAP, FIRREA, Interagency Guidelines).
  • Working knowledge of appraisal processes, terminology, and common issues related to valuation assignments.
  • Experience working with appraisal management systems (AMS), document management tools, or banking workflow platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills for working with appraisers, reviewers, and loan officers of varying experience levels.

Physical Demands/Work Environment: Vision, hearing, speech, dexterity, visual concentration. A valid driver’s license is required. Must have the ability to stand, walk, sit and use hands and fingers. Must have the ability to work the hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled. The environment is a professional office with standard office equipment. Limited travel may be required for training or department meetings.
