Company description Highwater Farm connects the community back to the land through sustainable agriculture, stewardship, and youth development. Located in the Colorado River valley on the western slope of Colorado, the farm provides weekly vegetables for a 120 member Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and routes 15% of produce grown to the local food pantry system and is a certified SNAP retailer. In 2024 our team grew over 30,000 pounds of diversified vegetables on 3 acres using regenerative practices. A flock of laying hens with a mobile chicken coop helps manage and fertilize surrounding pastures and provides eggs for CSA members. The farm is located in Silt, Colorado - a small town with a deep farming and ranching history. There are many opportunities for outdoor recreation in the area including an extensive network of mountain biking and hiking trails, river access for rafting and fly fishing, and camping. Job description Working in close cooperation with the Executive Director, the Farm Manager will oversee all areas of field production and ensure that the farm is operating efficiently. Responsibilities Responsibilities include participation and leadership in all aspects of vegetable production. Daily tasks include: crop planning and record keeping; seeding and greenhouse management; cultivation and bed prep; transplanting; irrigation; weed and pest management; harvesting, washing, marketing crops; and record keeping. The Farm Manager will build out daily task lists, directly supervise seasonal staff members in agricultural work, and will report to the Executive Director on a regular basis. Participate in and be accountable for growing high quality produce Design crop plan, seeding schedule and lead farm record-keeping Recruit, hire, onboard seasonal farm positions Train staff and volunteers in agricultural practices to accomplish scheduled work Work alongside staff and crew members to achieve efficient crop production and build positive work culture Lead pest and disease scouting; implement IPM tactics and design schedule for beneficial insects Perform and/or delegate research on various agricultural methods Regularly work with and repair drip and overhead irrigation systems Manage produce washing and packing, distribution and delivery including markets, CSA, and wholesale Support grant research, writing and grant reporting throughout the winter months and donor cultivation as needed Prepare daily field work plan for youth programs and train/support staff and youth in field as needed Qualifications Minimum 2+ years experience working in vegetable production Supervisory experience Demonstrated flexibility to work with shifting timelines and schedules Ability work under pressure in a fast-paced environment Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions and maintain a positive attitude Strong commitment to sustainable farming practices Ability to lead seasonal staff, youth and volunteers in the field Able to lift 50+lbs Have access to a personal laptop and cell phone preferred, but not required Ability to safely operate tractors and other farm equipment Experience with adhering to a food safety plan preferred, but not required Hours This position starts with part-time hourly work opportunities Feb-March (10-20 hours/week) and transitions to full time in April (40-45 hours/week). Compensation Starting compensation for this position is $25/hr before taxes, paid out every two weeks Compensation shifts from hourly to salaried after a 60 day probationary period. Starting annual salary $52,000-$58,000 dependent on experience. Mileage reimbursement for work-related travel in a personal vehicle is included at $0.70/mile. CSA share, eggs, and storage crops based on seasonal availability and totaling $1,000 in value.
