GENERAL STATEMENT
The duties of this position require a constituted state law enforcement officer (pursuant to 379.3313, F.S.) certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, empowered to enforce all laws of the State with full powers of arrest. Responsibilities include protecting life, limb, and property on the waters and lands of the State, enforcing fish and wildlife laws and regulations, and boating safety enforcement. This position investigates alleged violations of resource laws, seizes evidence, makes arrests, and testifies in court. Provides general police protection for citizens and visitors using the lands and waters of Florida. Assists other agencies during disasters and is subject to call 24/7. Requires independent judgment and technical law enforcement knowledge with limited supervision. Duties require rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must be 18 years of age to apply and 19 years of age by date of hire
High School diploma or GED
Valid Class E Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
No felony convictions or misdemeanors involving perjury or false statements
No dishonorable discharge from the Armed Forces
Good moral character
Successful completion of a full background check if selected
The Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (AKA FBAT / CJBAT/ BAT) must be completed and passed to be eligible for phase 2 of the selection process. As of July 1, 2022, section 943.17(1)(g) states that any candidate wishing to enter a law enforcement academy who is a veteran or holds an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university is not required to take the Law Enforcement Basic Abilities Test.
TRAINING ACADEMY
The FWC Training Center is located in Havana, Florida at the Florida Public Safety Institute (FPSI). Florida certified law enforcement officers will attend an abbreviated training course. Out-of-state law enforcement officers must obtain their Florida Law Enforcement Certification for the abbreviated training course.
Starting salary as Trainee is $2,019.23 bi-weekly / $52,500.00 annually. Upon assignment to field:
Those residing within Dade County – $2,326.91 / $60,500.00 annually
Those residing within Monroe County - $2,403.83 / $62,500.00 annually
SELECTION PROCESS INFORMATION
Applicants meeting the criteria and passing the physical fitness assessment will advance to the next stages, including an oral interview, full background investigation, medical physical and eye exam, and psychological evaluation.
If not a certified law enforcement officer, passing a (B.A.T.) Basic Abilities Test is required.
PHYSICAL FITNESS REQUIREMENTS
Must pass a swimming test (150 yards continuously untimed) and a physical abilities test (PAT) in 8:36 or less.

MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must pass a thorough medical examination, including drug screening, by a licensed physician at applicant’s expense. Vision standards apply.

Criminal History
A misdemeanor conviction involving domestic violence
A misdemeanor conviction involving perjury or false statements
Military History
A dishonorable discharge from the Armed Forces
Controlled Substance Abuse
Marijuana use in the past two years
Controlled substance use (other than prescribed) within the last 5 years.
Driving History
Driving Under the Influence or Boating Under the Influence conviction within the past five years
Any traffic or boating violation involving refusal to submit to a breath/blood/urine test within five years
No more than four moving violations within the past three years
Prior Law Enforcement and Correctional Officers
Any sustained internal investigation for perjury or false statements
Vision Standard
Unaided vision shall not be less than 20/100 in each eye and corrected to 20/20
Field of vision must be 130 degrees
Must have the ability to distinguish primary colors and binocular vision
No double vision or chronic eye disorders affecting normal vision
