Job Description Overview The library assistant is responsible for staffing the Circulation Desk; assisting student, faculty, staff, and visitors in finding library resources; processing interlibrary loan requests; lending and receiving library materials; supervising student workers in the absence of the library coordinator; and opening and closing the Hutchens Library. Afternoon and evening shifts available. Specific hours to be determined. Essential Job Duties Interlibrary Loan Process lending and borrowing requests in FOLIO/OpenRS and OCLC, prepare items for shipping, and update and maintain accurate lending/borrowing logs.Download or scan documents for traditional or electronic delivery.Process loaned and borrowed items delivered daily by MOBIUS courier.Maintain other supplies needed for ILL and MOBIUS processing, i.e. mailing labels, book bands, etc.Assist SBU patrons requesting materials through MOBIUS. Circulation Check-in and check-out library materials.Accept payment for library fees, guest accounts and printing, and log transactions.Reconcile the money drawer, remove money to safe, and maintain proper amounts of money and change required to perform transactions.Assist with students, instructors, and the public as patrons.Collect in-house materials and log statistics.Assist with stack maintenance, including shelving, shelf-reading, shifting, identifying materials in need of repair, replacing worn and missing spine labels, and inventory.Assist supervisor with reserve collection maintenance, removing items from regular shelves for processing, returning materials to the stacks or to the instructor. Duties: Assist with on-going library projects.Maintain printers, supplies, and library spaces.
