JOB SUMMARY
Assist Mental Health Specialist by carrying out the Individual Support Plans for children birth to age 5.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (RESPONSIBILITIES):
Assists with the screening of children 0-5 and the collection of data for the Mental Health Department.
Works with the Mental Health Specialists to observe and implement interventions in the classroom and/or in the home environment.
Communicates with Mental Health Specialists, teachers, and parents regarding progress of children served.
Models appropriate interactions with children, for teachers in the classroom and parents in the home setting.
Assist parents with identification of needed resources and acquisition of services in the community.
Assist Mental Health Specialists by creating social/emotional tools and activities for the use in the classroom and home environment.
Advocate for a positive relationship of the parent with the child and with the classroom teacher.
Assists in group activities with children, formal trainings of teachers, workshops for parents, etc.
Attends and participates in department and multidisciplinary team meetings.
Attends trainings and in-service meetings as required by RUI.
Possess a genuine caring for, and interest in children.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds in person.
Ability to determine and identify items and children in the periphery, near, and far visual fields.
QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelor's Degree in Social Services related field.
Previous experience of 1-2 years working with families preferred.
SKILLS: Must be a self-starter and work independently as well as a great team player.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Excellent people skills.
Ability to perform work tasks within the physical demand requirements as outlined below.
Strong organizational, interpersonal & communication skills required.
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non - Exempt
WORK PACE: Self-paced, requiring the ability to think and act quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced, demanding work environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Indoors
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
May require frequent extended work days. Requires some travel between RUI sites, other community agencies and throughout the state.
Sitting: 6 - 7 hours in an 8 hour work shift; may occasionally alternate to standing or walking.
Standing: 1 - 2 hours in an 8 hour work shift. Alternates to sitting on a frequent basis
Walking: 1/2 - 1 hour in an 8 hour work shift.
