Job Description
The City of Raleigh is on the lookout for a dynamic planner to join our Long-Range Planning team within the Planning and Development Department.


About You:
The ideal candidate for this position should be passionate about shaping the built environment and connecting with residents and other community stakeholders about Raleigh's future. You'll work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support the city's rezoning and annexation programs, Comprehensive Plan, all while delivering excellent customer service. You should also be interested in organizational excellence and process improvements that enable us to do our jobs more effectively.

About Us:
The Planning and Development Department is tasked with guiding development in the City of Raleigh; everything from Building Inspections to Historic Preservation to Comprehensive Planning.
The Longe Range team is a unit of Comprehensive Planning responsible for the City's Comprehensive Plan, rezoning and annexation programs, and other special projects. The team is led by two Planning Supervisors and is composed of two Planners, six Senior Planners, and a Principal Planner.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide support to the rezoning and annexation programs, acting as the first point of contact, reviewing applications, and providing support through intake
  • Provide information to applicants and members of the public about the division's work
  • Support the division's projects, including small area studies, data reporting, and Reflecting Raleigh the process of writing a new Comprehensive Plan
  • Research and gather information related to planning efforts; prepare reports, maps, charts, data, presentations, and/or other materials derived from research and analysis

Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field; 1 to 3 years' planning experience in an area relevant to the department to which assigned

OR

Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

Work Environment and Physical Effort:

Sedentary : Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work Environment:
