Overview Under general supervision, plans and carries out key elements of a clinical research project. Is responsible for timely completion of deliverables to meet the needs of the study sponsor, principal investigator and department administration. Provides cross‑coverage for the Community Outreach Coordinator. Responsibilities Determines recruitment strategy, project timeline and work plan to accomplish project (or program) deliverables. Assists in determining eligibility of patients for inclusion on clinical protocols. Assists in the collection and processing of patient data and in entering information on protocol patients into the database accurately. Oversees interaction with study participants, ensuring informed consent and compliance with protocol; monitoring subject symptoms; managing continuity of care. Assists in writing research grants, study materials, brochures and correspondence. Conducts bimonthly interdisciplinary professional team meetings to clarify project (or program) techniques and negotiate deliverables. Apprises team of project status. Develops and provides formal and informal education for nursing staff in the area of specialty in conjunction with nursing education. Acts as a resource to affiliating student programs. Meets with patients to discuss study requirements, their ability to conform, the risks and benefits of the study and the concept of clinical trial participation. Orients, coordinates and educates participating physicians, oncology nursing personnel and other healthcare personnel of the required clinical activities and related study methodology. Qualifications Education BSN or BS in Nursing preferred. Licensure / Certifications Registered Nurse (RN) with current Maryland License Oncology Nursing Certification (optional or eligible) Current CPR certification Experience Three (3) years of oncology nursing experience with at least one year in research or transplant services. Skills Skill in ethically communicating risks and benefits. Knowledge of research principles and practices. Ability to analyze and report data accurately. Proficient in patient assessment; IV blood draw skills. Excellent personal computer skills needed for self‑sufficient secretarial support.
