National Grid is hiring a Head of Social Impact & Community Engagement Operations for our Corporate Affairs team. This position will be located in our Boston, MA office, or Brooklyn, NY office with hybrid working. Job Purpose The Head of Social Impact & Community Engagement Operations will be a key leader within the Social Impact and Community Engagement (SICE) Center of Excellence (COE) team, responsible for overseeing the operational effectiveness of the company’s corporate giving, community engagement, employee volunteering, and charitable activities. This role ensures that the company’s philanthropic and social impact initiatives are strategically aligned, well-executed, and deliver measurable value to UK and US communities. As the Head of Strategic Operations for the SICE COE, you will lead the Portfolio, Risk, and Chief of Staff areas, blending strategy, delivery, and operations under one leader. You will be responsible for providing visibility to the work portfolio, aligning with business strategies, delivering key programs, and overseeing risk and broader Chief of Staff deliverables. Key Accountabilities Support the development, refinement, and implementation of a best-in-class strategy for grant giving, community engagement, volunteering, and philanthropic efforts. Collaborate with other leaders to shape the department's overall strategy and serve as the leader of results, communications, and oversight. Provide regular updates on program health, risks, and impediments, ensuring key milestones and regulatory obligations are met. Manage the Portfolio and Metrics team to provide insights, delivery recommendations, and operational efficiency strategies. Manage a team responsible for operationalizing corporate giving, community engagement, and employee volunteering programs. Identify training needs and support performance management to maintain a high-performing team. Oversee workplan development and implementation to achieve COE goals, monitoring progress and responding to needs. Support effective communication of social impact outcomes and community engagement efforts, working within a matrixed Corporate Affairs Operations team. Manage the budget, ensure effective resource utilization, and oversee financial planning processes. Implement grant-giving and employee giving processes, and evaluate philanthropic efforts to ensure alignment with corporate objectives. Advise on improving grant-giving strategies and act as the operational support for the Group Head of Social Impact & Community Engagement. Maintain momentum on strategic initiatives, ensure engagement with the Responsible Business Charter, and address organizational gaps. Build relationships across the company, influence stakeholders, and represent the SICE team internally. Promote shared learning and professional development within the team. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree At least 10 years of program/project delivery experience At least 8 years of people management experience Proven experience in grant-giving operations within a large, CSR-focused organization Strong leadership and management skills with diverse teams Exceptional organizational skills and proficiency in relevant IT systems Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence Analytical mindset with impact measurement experience High attention to detail and commitment to excellence Experience in budget management and governance Stakeholder management skills to influence across complex organizations More Information #LI-MR1
