Part-Time Interpreter who will be all-in on our mission and who will take the spoken message and transform it into the best possible version of sign language in order to convey the essence of the message. The sign language interpreter will be responsible for translating everything that is said in exactly the same manner in which it was intended.
Qualifications EDUCATION: Required: - High School Diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of college coursework and demonstrated ability to sign using traditional ASL sign language skills.
- Some sign language coursework either at the high school or college level.
Preferred: Associate's Degree.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
Required : Must be a certified interpreter or preparing to sit for the sign language interpreter exams. (ASL Sign Language.)
EXPERIENCE:
Required : Some experience working with hard of hearing/deaf individuals using ASL interpreting skills.
Preferred : A minimum of 1 (one) year of experience working in a school or college setting.

- Use ASL, American Sign Language to translate information.
- Must be able to translate any class needed by a particular student.
- Must be able to voice for the hearing impaired/deaf student.
- Must be able to keep pace with the class so the student is able to obtain the information presented.
- Follow interpreter code of conduct.
- Must be able to attend classes with the hard of hearing/deaf student.
- Required to interact with all levels of departmental personnel, students, vendors, community, and management with professionalism and respect.
- Participate in and complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.
Pay grade
10 , (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)
Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
