They must have a CERTIFICATE/DEGREE in SURGICAL ASSISTING from an accredited school. The certification for this is usually from the NBSTA, National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants, which comes when they sit for and pass their exam. In Virginia, they also have to have a VIRGINA LICENSE, issued from the VDH. IF they have applied for one and are waiting on final approval, we are still interested in interviewing them. RNFA is an equivalent position, must also have passed a First Assistant program and I believe their RN license is equivalent to the Virginia licensing requirement. Some SAs/RNFAs, may also have a Surgical Scrub Technologist degree, as well because a lot of them were techs prior to having their training as an assistant. However, they MUST have an ASSISTANT degree and a Virginia license to qualify for this position.Medical Solutions Job ID #883025.
